How to Join a Progress Toronto Netflix Viewing Party

Thank you for signing up to join one of our Netflix Viewing Parties! During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are hosting viewing parties to help build community, continue the conversations about changing power in Toronto, and to do our part in practicing physical distancing to flatten the curve.

Netflix Party allows us to simultaneously watch films and chat with each other. We tested the tool and it worked! But, like anything new, there is a chance that this application will not work. If this happens, you can watch the film directly on Netflix and we can chat on Zoom. Our Netflix Viewing Parties usually follow a panel or conversation that takes place on Zoom.

There are 3 requirements to join a Netflix Viewing Party. Please make sure you have all of these in place before the date of the Netflix Viewing Party.

  1. A Netflix account
    If you do not have a Netflix account, you can sign-up for a free 30-day trial here: https://www.netflix.com/ca/

  2. Google Chrome
    Google Chrome is a web browser similar to Firefox and Explorer. You can download Google Chrome for free here: https://www.google.com/chrome/

  3. The Netflix Party extension in Google Chrome (and make sure it is the most recent version, since bugs are often fixed)
    Use this link to download and/or update the Netflix Party plug in https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/netflix-party/oocalimimngaihdkbihfgmpkcpnml

Once the pre-screening panel/conversation on Zoom is finished, we will say it’s time to join the Netflix Party! As long as you have the requirements above in place, all you need to do is click on the Netflix Party link that was sent to you in a confirmation email and then turn the party on.

Click on the link included in your confirmation email to join us in the Netflix Party.

After you click on this link, make sure you click on the little red “NP” button in the top right hand corner of the screen (beside your address bar) to enable the Netflix Party feature. Please see the image below:
