Taking Doug Ford to Court! Online Watch Party & Discussion
Supreme Court case over Ford’s interference in Toronto’s election
Join us on Tuesday, March 16 and watch live as we take on Premier Doug Ford at the Supreme Court of Canada over his attack on Toronto’s democracy. Assistant Professor at UBC’s Allard School of Law, Alexandra Flynn and Associate Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, Bruce Ryder will join us to share legal insight into what is happening and help us understand legal procedure. We will have special guests joining throughout the day. Read further down for a list of our guests!
In 2018 Doug Ford changed the rules and wards in the middle of our election, weeks before voters went to the polls — an unprecedented attack on Toronto and local democracy. It threw our elections into disarray, trampling on the rights of candidates and voters.
Alongside thousands of Torontonians, Progress Toronto has fought this all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. We now have official intervenor status at the Supreme Court and on March 16, 2021 the case will be heard.
Join Progress Toronto on Tuesday, March 16 at 9:30AM via Zoom so we can watch the case at the Supreme Court of Canada live together.
While we watch the livestream, Progress Toronto will be there, online with you on our Zoom chat. Law professors Alexandra Flynn and Bruce Ryder will be leading the discussion and providing municipal and constitutional legal expertise throughout the court proceedings. Joining them will be:
Former 2018 City Council Candidate Amber Morley
Toronto Centre, University-Rosedale TDSB Trustee Chris Moise
Toronto & York Region Labour Council Executive Assistant Susan McMurray and President John Cartwright
We’ll be providing helpful information and can help to answer questions about context, process and so much more!
Follow us on Twitter @progresstoronto for updates and then join us in our Zoom discussion — or stay online with us throughout the day.
