Thank you!
Here are some tips for your call:
If you’re calling your councillor, emphasize that you live in their ward and share who you are if you would like
If you’re going to say one thing say this: “I want you to vote to oppose Bill 39 and vote to support majority rule at city hall”
You can say why you want them to oppose it. Here are some examples:
The most diverse progressive city council was just elected and this takes away their vote
No one asked for this change and local voices need to be heard
Minority rule does not exist anywhere else, it is undemocratic
Local democracy needs to get better, not worse
We need bold actions on issues, not putting all the power in one person's hands without checks and balances
Your call can be short, no need to make a big speech
If no one answers, leave a message - it is powerful too
Help others call their local politician
City Council meets this week and we are counting on the pressure from thousands of voices to convince local politicians to stand up for Toronto’s democracy. We cannot accept a minority rule in a democratic government and Toronto City Council needs to urgently debate Bill 39.
