We Stood Up To Ford
Thursday was a huge success!
When we heard that Ford might use a wonky parliamentary trick to curb the democratic process and fast-track his bill to slash Toronto City Council in half—we knew we had to do something.
And with less than 24 hours notice—800 of you showed up to pack the public gallery in Ontario’s legislature to protest this abuse of power.
With this massive show of people-powered opposition in the legislature—so packed it was spilling out into the streets—he didn’t move to further suppress the democratic process, which means we’ve bought ourselves more time to get Ford’s hands off of Toronto.
It was incredible. Hundreds lined up to get inside Queen's Park. Check it out:
But the fight isn’t over. Next week, the legislature resumes, and Ford could do what we were trying to stop Thursday: move a motion in the legislature that would end debate on the bill and skip the entire review process. In other words: curb democracy to ram this bill into law.
