Winter Training Series:
How to Speak at a Government Committee
See other Winter training sessions offered by Progress Toronto here
The City’s 2022 budget will be coming out on January 13. The cost of living is ever-increasing in Toronto. Rent, groceries, and child care are too costly for many who are thrust into homelessness and food insecurity and this is our chance to tell City Councillors and Mayor Tory to invest in Toronto’s future.
On January 24 and 25 the City's Budget Committee will be meeting and it is your opportunity to directly tell the Mayor and the City Councillors what you want to see prioritized and included in the 2022 budget. That’s why this will be a special City Budget 2022 edition of our training!
Speaking at a committee is also known as making a deputation. Deputations are an opportunity for you to tell the Mayor, City Councillors, and TDSB Trustees your opinions and perspectives on issues they are considering.
At this workshop you will learn the basics of making a deputation. You will learn how to choose which committee to speak at, how to read the committee agenda, how to sign up for a deputation, and how to prepare your deputation (speech). Right now, deputations at the City of Toronto are taking place by video. We will also review how this works and how you can prepare.
This training session is being led by Progress Toronto’s Founding Advisor Monica Krista De Vera and Organizing Director Saman Tabasinejad.
